Yolanda King Explores IP Issues Related to Tattoos and Graffiti

Advitam IP’s Yolanda King recently served as a panelist exploring copyright and other intellectual property issues related to tattoos and graffiti. The panel took place at the American Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section’s (ABA-IPL) annual spring meeting in Arlington, Virginia. The panel discussion — titled “Graffiti, Tattoos, and More: Fixation of Work on Property or People: Are They Your Source?” — was presented by the ABA-IPL Digital Games and New Media Committee. Yolanda and her fellow participants examined the growing trend of artists claiming copyright protection over a broader range of work and the various legal issues associated with these media of creative expression. Yolanda explains that a key hurdle to clear in this issue is identifying who or what is being infringed. The panelists agreed that this issue is relevant to companies producing entertainment and marketing content because it can be a challenge to determine who and what to license.
